The Benefits of Meditation

The medical benefits of meditation are mental, physical and spiritual.
People who practice meditation, suggest that meditation is not always about finding solutions to a problem, but about changing one's attitude towards the problem. As no two minds are the same, the effects of meditation will differ from one person to another. However, it has been scientifically proven that meditation is highly beneficial when dealing with anxiety, depression, insomnia, low-self confidence, and stress. Recent studies also suggest that meditation can be very beneficial when used to complement modern medicine to manage pain.
Mentally it can help to reduce stress and anxiety, thus physically helping to lower blood pressure and reduce heart problems. Breathing may also be improved as air is brought deeper into the lungs. Memory and focus are improved, as are our moods. Other mental benefits that have been linked with the regular practice of meditation include: aiding Panic attacks; Depression; Relaxation; Insomnia; Self esteem and Self confidence.
Meditation is derived from the Latin "Meditari" (to think) and Mederi (to heal) and can be described as a way to quieten the mind & achieve "self-realisation".
The term “spiritual benefit"  is not used in a religious sense, but in the sense of communicating with one‟s “higher self”. There may be some people who consider meditation a form of prayer, whilst there may be a religious connotation, generally speaking meditation means awareness.
